The short answer
Axis Bank and travel platform Scapia have launched the Scapia Axis Bank Credit Card for Indian travellers.
The card is offered on Mastercard and RuPay networks. It combines everyday spending, travel bookings, rewards and card management through the Scapia app.
Its main attractions are zero joining and annual fees, no published foreign-currency markup, Scapia Coin rewards and domestic airport privileges linked to monthly spending.
Main features at a glance
| Feature | Published condition |
|---|---|
| Joining fee | Zero |
| Annual fee | Zero |
| Foreign-currency markup | Nil |
| DCC markup | Nil |
| Bookings through Scapia | 20% rewards as Scapia Coins on eligible bookings |
| Mastercard base rewards | 10% rewards as Scapia Coins on eligible online and offline spends |
| RuPay base rewards | 5% rewards as Scapia Coins on eligible UPI, online and offline spends of ₹500 or more |
| Domestic airport privileges | Unlocked after spending ₹20,000 in the preceding month |
These percentages describe rewards issued as Scapia Coins. A "10% reward" should not automatically be treated as 10% cashback in rupees. The value depends on the programme's redemption rules.
Manually confirm the coin value, expiry rules, eligible transactions and redemption conditions before applying.
Mastercard and RuPay versions are different
The Mastercard version currently earns 10% rewards as Scapia Coins on eligible online and offline spending.
The RuPay version earns 5% rewards as Scapia Coins on eligible UPI, online and offline transactions of ₹500 or more.
The word "eligible" matters. Not every transaction is necessarily covered. Read the current reward terms and exclusions before choosing a network.
The RuPay version may interest customers who want to link an eligible credit card to a supported UPI app. UPI acceptance, transaction eligibility and rewards remain subject to NPCI, issuer and app rules.
Editorial interpretation: Mastercard may suit customers focused on eligible card spending, while RuPay may suit customers who value eligible UPI payments. The better option depends on how you actually pay.
Travel bookings and Scapia Coins
Axis Bank says customers can receive 20% rewards as Scapia Coins on eligible flights, hotels, experiences and e-commerce bookings made through the Scapia app.
Coins can be redeemed through the app for supported bookings and purchases. This makes the card's value closely connected to the Scapia platform.
Before applying, check:
- How many Scapia Coins equal ₹1 of redemption value.
- Whether the coins expire.
- Which bookings qualify for accelerated rewards.
- How cancellations affect earned or redeemed coins.
- Whether booking or convenience fees apply.
- Whether the final price is competitive elsewhere.
Editorial interpretation: A high reward percentage is useful only when the redemption value and booking price are also competitive.
Domestic airport privileges
The official product page says cardholders can unlock domestic lounge access and other airport privileges after spending ₹20,000 in the preceding month.
The programme may include lounge access, dining, shopping or spa benefits, subject to the current conditions and participating locations.
This is not unconditional access. Spending completed shortly before a journey may not qualify if it falls outside the calculation period or has not yet been posted.
Confirm the airport list, qualifying-spend calculation, excluded transactions, guest rules and access limits before travelling.
Zero foreign-currency markup
Axis Bank currently lists the foreign-currency transaction fee and Dynamic Currency Conversion markup as nil for this card.
That does not guarantee that every overseas payment is free from all additional costs. An ATM, merchant or payment provider may impose its own charge, and currency conversion still takes place through the applicable card-network process.
Review the final displayed amount before accepting an overseas transaction, especially when a merchant offers to charge you in Indian rupees.
Zero annual fee does not mean zero charges
The card currently has no joining or annual fee, but other charges can apply.
Axis Bank lists charges for cash withdrawals, late payments, returned payments, overlimit usage and some spending categories. Examples include rent, certain third-party education payments, large wallet loads, utilities and fuel spending when applicable conditions are met.
Check the latest Most Important Terms and Conditions. Paying the Total Amount Due by the due date is normally the safest approach; an unpaid balance can create finance charges even on a card with no annual fee.
Who can apply?
Axis Bank currently says the primary applicant should:
- Be between 18 and 70 years old.
- Be a resident of India.
- Provide the required identity, address and income documents.
Meeting the basic conditions does not guarantee approval. Axis Bank makes the final decision under its credit-assessment and eligibility process.
Who may find this card useful?
The card may be worth considering if you:
- Travel internationally and value a nil published forex markup.
- Can meet the monthly airport-benefit spending requirement.
- Are comfortable earning and redeeming through Scapia.
- Want a card without a joining or annual fee.
- Can select the network that suits your payment habits.
It may be less useful if you do not use Scapia, cannot regularly meet the airport-spend condition or prefer rewards that can be redeemed outside one platform.
